Why a Dunes Foundation?
Several agencies and organizations and many citizens are dedicated to preserving the eastern Lake Ontario dune-lagoon-wetland ecosystem. These entities united to form The Ontario Dunes Coalition (TODC) in order to coordinate interests and actions to protect and preserve the system.
Enter the Eastern Lake Ontario Dunes Foundation (ELODF):
- The Ontario Dunes Coalition (TODC) does not exist as a legal entity.
Since the Coalition membership includes both public agencies and private entities, it serves best as an unofficial forum and clearinghouse for ideas, coordination and cooperation.
- TODC cannot receive or distribute funds.
As an informal organization, TODC has no ability to seek, hold, or dispense funding to member organizations.
- No previously existing central clearinghouse or conduit for private funding or cross-cutting projects.
It is often difficult and cumbersome for disparate organizations to secure funds or to pass them through to other cooperators.
- TODC member organizations each have different priorities and a different mission.
But xperience has shown that there is often need for several organizations to each bring its capabilities and expertise to bear in order to solve a problem.
